An American Battlefield Trust Generations Event brings families together for an experience of history! You’re invited to gather your recruits—kids, grandkids, neighbors, and friends—and come be inspired by stories and activities from the Revolutionary War on the anniversary weekend of American Army’s departure from Valley Forge in 1778.

Join the American Battlefield Trust at Valley Forge National Historical Park for a FREE Event on Saturday, June 15, 2024. From 2pm to 5pm, walk through the hands-on activity stations at your own pace and learn about the Continental Army’s hard winter at Valley Forge, the French-American Alliance, and the soldiers’ new hopes for victory.

246 years ago, the Continental Army departed from its Winter Encampment at Valley Forge. The soldiers and civilians had survived a difficult winter, but the news of the French-American Alliance raised their spirits and new military skills raised their hopes for a victory in the coming campaign. Through exciting activities and interactive moments, this Generations Event will explore the stories of the winter at Valley Forge and the diverse people who arrived, stayed, or visited the encampment.

March in the footsteps of Washington’s soldiers as we learn to drill, consider re-enlisting, forage for food, design shelter huts, wear a tricorn hat and re-discover details about “the times that tried men’s souls” and the soldiers who continued to fight for independence. The event will take place near the Visitor Center at Valley Forge National Historical Park, adding an opportunity to explore a museum and historic site!

The event is free and open to all who come with someone of another generation; registration is requested for planning purposes. The ideal ages are 6-17. The activities and hands-on learning will be continuous from 2pm to 5pm, and will take an estimated hour to enjoy and experience.

American Battlefield Trust is grateful to partner with Valley Forge National Historical Park and the Museum of the American Revolution to present this family-friendly event.
