We are Updating Our Website!
March 31, 2008 Announcement
During the American Civil War both sides used the latest technology to further their cause. Ironclad warships, repeating rifles, observation balloons, submarines, telegraphic communications and other innovative technologies played a major role in shaping the outcome of this great conflict.
Here at the Civil War Preservation Trust we also try to use the latest in 21st-century technology to help us to preserve historic 19th-century landscapes. To keep pace with rapid technological advancements we will be undertaking a major redesign and improvement project on our website.
With our latest website release you will hopefully find a range of improvements and added features. We are also hard at work on a host of further improvements that will debut in the coming weeks and months. For instance we are already developing new, streamlined donation and membership interfaces that will make donating and becoming a member less of a challenge. We will also be developing additional animated battlefield maps, political advocacy options, and other features that will better introduce our preservation opportunities. So keep coming back to see what is new and different about our Civil War Preservation Trust website.
Please check out our latest improvements:
1. Homepage

Our new homepage will allow us to feature a wider range of the content, preservation opportunities, and activities that the Civil War Preservation Trust is engaged in. With our new, cleaner homepage we are hoping to present to our members and visitors a more modern, dynamic, and engaging site.
We anticipate many new improvements, so bookmark www.civilwar.org and visit us often!
2. Improved “Get Involved” Section
Learning more about the Civil War, educating the public, and of course preserving battlefields are our passions; and we know those are yours, too. So – whether you are looking to become a member, donate or discover more ways to become an activist for preservation – visit our newly improved section to find the resources and information to get involved.

3. Battlefield Preservation Opportunities
Every day the Civil War Preservation Trust is engaged in saving Civil War battlefields throughout the United States, and you can be, too. Throughout the year we provide you with opportunities to directly get involved with particular preservation efforts. Our new web battlefield "Preservation Opportunity" appeals are designed to deliver a wealth of supporting information for each of those efforts. Downloadable battlefield maps, historical content, links to related websites, photos, and recommended books are all a part of these new packages.

4. A New CWPT Website Search System
We know that finding content that matches your exact interest is not always easy to do. With our new Google-powered search functionality you can now easily locate website information from our home page.
Give it a try and send email us at web@civilwar.org to know what you think of the search and our other improvements.
5. Debut of a New Section on Civil War Photography
This section is focused on Civil War photography, both historic and modern. Not only was photography an important subject during the Civil War, but we know that many of you enjoy photographing Civil War battlefields and subjects today and are eager to share your shutterbug skills with other enthusiasts. From this site you will also be able to access our growing archive of modern Civil War photos published on our CWPT Flickr site.
6. Debut of a New Section on Civil War Books
Many of our supporters are passionate about books, especially Civil War books. So we’re creating a repository for our growing archive of Civil War books and our new Amazon.com-powered CWPT bookstore. You’ll also be able to find links to other Civil War-related book sites and information on the latest Civil War releases.
7. Debut of Our First Animated Battlefield Map
CWPT members have long admired our collection of Civil War battlefield maps. With advances in web technology we are releasing our first animated battlefield map.
Our first animated map focuses in on the action on May 1st, 1863 around the Chancellorsville battlefield – an area where the CWPT has been active in preserving threatened land. Watch the troops march over the blue patch of land that CWPT – and you, our supporters – helped to save. From this feature you will also be able to access related photos, historical content, and references.

... And More To Come
I can also tell you that we are not stopping here. Plus, more complete redesign of our website is in the works and will likely debut later in the year.
As always we welcome your thoughts and feedback on our latest website offerings. Please e-mail us at web@civilwar.org.
